FAQ

1. How do I know whether hardwood or luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring would be best for my home?

We walk clients through the pros and cons of each option. Hardwood floors offer timeless style and can be refinished for decades, while LVP flooring provides a durable, low-maintenance option that works well in moisture-prone areas like kitchens and bathrooms.

2. What is parquet flooring?

Parquet flooring is a hardwood floor made from small pieces of wood arranged in a decorative pattern. Examples are herringbone, chevron, or basket weave. You can see these examples in our gallery.

3. What is a hand-scraped hardwood floor, and why is it so popular?

A hand-scraped hardwood floor has a textured, natural look created by skilled craftsmen rather than machines. This technique not only enhances the wood’s character but also hides small scratches and dents, making it a favorite among homeowners who want durable, custom hardwood floors with a one-of-a-kind finish.

4. Can you restore or refinish old hardwood floors?

Yes! One of our specialties is hardwood floor refinishing. We carefully sand, repair, and apply new finishes to bring worn or dull wood back to life. Our dust containment systems and low-VOC finish options help keep your home clean and comfortable during the process.

5. Do you offer eco-friendly or low-VOC flooring options?

Yes. Colpron Custom Floors offers zero-VOC and eco-friendly finishes that are safe for families, pets, and the environment. We also use locally sourced materials whenever possible, making it easy to create sustainable custom flooring you can feel good about.

Specialized Techniques for Hand Scraped Hardwood Floors

♦︎♦︎♦︎

Having learned the Beverly Hills Scrape technique from award-winning floor industry expert Dave Marzalek, Jon Colpron uses this highly specialized scraping technique to create beautiful and extra durable hand scraped solid hardwood flooring. We are also skilled in wire brushing to achieve a ceruse finish. While most of the flooring contractors nearby have neither the machinery nor the knowledge to use these techniques, wire brushing removes the soft grain of the wood, leaving the hardest grain standing taller. By adding texture, traction and durability, this technique promotes the longevity of hardwood floors.

Affordable Wood Flooring Options

We at Colpron Custom Floors are committed to finding the most affordable options for our clients and offer pricing options for every budget. Providing customers with renewable products, the goal at Colpron Custom Floors is to help clients understand all of their custom flooring options regardless of price as well as the impact each product will have on the environment. What does this look like in action? Even if a flooring material is cheaper, we will only recommend it if it truly is the best option for a client’s space. If a client wants a perfectly crafted parquet floor installation with hardwood floor inlays or medallions with no expense spared, we will use the best possible materials to create a true work of art.
